Bake-A-Thon 2011 - Final Roundup

Happy New year everyone. May the year 2012 be filled with health, happiness and prosperity. For some reason, everyone looks back into the entire year during this time. I think it is a great practice, to learn from our own mistakes, make resolutions to do better and correct the mistakes in future. If you have New Year resolutions for this year, I wish you all the best with that/them.

If there are people who are glad that 2011 is over, I am one of them. Year 2010 was bad enough in my personal life, but 2011 was worse. I am hoping, praying that year 2012 has good stuff for me/us.

On a side note, I have been really busy this month with this Bake-A-Thon. I do not know if you all enjoyed reading these daily baking adventures, but I certainly did. Am I going to do something like this again? time only will tell.
But for now, enjoy the summary of all the posts written for this Bake-A-Thon -

Day 8: Julekage
Day 19: Caramel Corn
Day 25: Coconut Bars
Day 31: This post

Be safe and you will get to read this blog in the new year.

Enjoy.

Mid way recap of Bake-A-Thon 2011

As you all know, I have been baking every day this month and posting the recipes. Today, I am taking a break not because I cannot bake, but because I want all the cookies that are on my kitchen counter to vanish before I bake anything else. We had a few visitors yesterday and one of them is a baker. She brought a box of homemade cookies for the kids and another person bought cookies from the store and brought it. Together, there are about 7 varieties of cookies on my kitchen now along with the cake I baked the other day. I chose to do a recap of what all I have baked so far as a categorized summary. I hope you enjoy it.
Breads - Yeast breads/Muffins/Quickbreads

Cookies/Bars

Cakes

Something different

Check out all the things that my fellow bloggers have baked here -
Preethi of IsingCakes,
Veena Krishna Kumar of VeenasVegnation,
Priya Suresh of Priya's Easy N Tasty Recipes.

Bake-A-Thon in December 2011

It is Thanksgiving in two days. That means November has come to an end and it is time to gear up for the holiday season and baking. I love this season (when it doesn't snow to be honest) mainly because of baking. I had a crazy idea of blogging every day of December for the entire month on baked goods. Then, when I posted the idea on facebook, I had few blogger friends who were interested in joining me in this crazy, but fun adventure. So, here is a post about the details of this Bake-A-Thon.

The group is limited to 10 people. You will have to post every single day of December. Post has to be about a baked good, or a tip about baking (you can bake anything from a cookie to bread to cake or a pie. No meat. You can use eggs or chose not to - no restrictions on that). You get it right? Something in the line of baking.

We will link each other as a group. And try to spread the holiday spirits by commenting, constructive criticism if any, cheering up etc. Bottom line is to have fun. We start on December 1st and end on December 31st. Those who want to be a part of it, email me at versatilekitchen@gmail.com.

Now, having said that you have to post everyday of the month, I understand it is crazy and hard to do. So, here is a breather for anyone who wants to take it. Everyone will get a turn to not post once every 10 days. That day, they will just write about the blog posts of the rest of the group. No need to elaborate on anything. Just share what others are baking with links. If everyone uses this breather, you still get 3 days off of the whole month. If few people chose not to use the breather, you will get more days off.

Oh, but please commit to this if and only if you can do it. Need any tips how to handle the situation with a busy schedule? ask me via email.

Readers, I hope you will all have fun reading about all the baking experiments and hopefully it will be a treasury of baked goods once done. I hope I can do this again next year.

Have a great day.
