Cake Decorating Basics - Part 10

This one is a continuation of Part 9 posted yesterday.

As long as you ice the cake well, put a nice border, pretty much the cake is good to present. Whatever you do more than that shows your creativity, talent, patience and of course experience. Since this series was meant to be about basics of cake decorating, I will end this series here. Go through the vast videos that are there and books in the library if you want to improve them. Most of all, lot can be achieved by imagination.

Yesterday's post had a video about how to frost the cake. Here is another video which gives you a lot of ideas of borders. Typically borders are piped on the top edge of the cake and bottom. But, sometimes the top border is skipped to accommodate the design requirement for that cake.
Enjoy this video..

There are many tutorials to teach the flower making which, I am not addressing here.
For those who might dare to stack the cake, here is another video by serisoucakes showing how to stack the cakes.

There are some things that are showed in the above video which are taught differently in wilton courses. Cut the cake board of the top layers same size as the cake that is sitting on.

I always stack them to the level of the cake. Some people make it longer a bit so that it is not sitting directly on the icing. I do not leave any extra space between the dowels and the top layer. If you are worried about icing sticking to the top layer's cake board, dust the area with some corn starch and it won't stick.

There is another video by a very talented cake decorator/teacher Edna. Take a look at that and many other beautiful gumpaste flowers she has made tutorials of.

These are the basic stuff and you can build your knowledge to any level that you desire. It has been fun putting all these posts together for those who do not have access to the courses and the books.
Enjoy. Pin It
