5 minute pizza/pasta sauce

After about 6 months of letting you all know about this awesome and quick recipe, here are some pictures with details of the recipe. I have been making this pasta/pizza sauce for 6 months now. There are some changes I have made to suit our taste buds. This recipe is not only quick but cheap too. You can make this sauce for half the price of the pizza sauce you get in the stores.


Adapted from Heidi's (Author of 101 cookbooks) recipe.
Ingredients:
Crushed tomatoes - one 28 Oz can
Olive oil - 1/4 cup (Extra virgin preferred)
Garlic - 4 cloves chopped fine
Dried oregano - 1 tsp
Dried Basil - 1 tsp (use fresh about 1 TBSP if available)
Salt - to taste
Black Pepper - crushed to taste
Lemon juice - about 3 TBSP from half of a big lemon
Cayanne - 1 tsp (You can use red chilli flakes too and I have used that many times)

Method:
In a sauce pan, heat olive oil. It need not get too hot. Add the chopped garlic. Don't let it toast and get brown. Add the crushed tomatoes. Stir. Add salt, crushed pepper, cayanne if using, lemon juice and the dried herbs. Rub the herbs on your palm and then add it to the pot. Stir occasionally and bring it to a simmer. Adjust the seasonings and switch off the heat. I have stored this in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. You could use vinegar instead of lemon juice too.

  5. Super, I got the sauce recipe too if I want to make the pizza:-)

    If using fresh tomatoes, how much would this be aprox? How much sauce will this approximately make?

    28 Oz is about 800 gms. Crushed tomatoes are just plain tomatoes blended in the blender. So, use about 3/4 kg or closer to 800 gms. Churn them in the mixie without adding water and you have crushed tomatoes enough for this recipe. It makes more than the regular bottle of sauce they sell in stores. I would say enough to make 4 - 5 pizza depending on how much you use.

  8. Sometimes it's the simplest dishes that taste the best. That sauce looks very versatile.

    I usually make pasta sauce when I have a overload of fresh tomatoes although it is a little tedious peeling and deseeding 1/2 dozen to 10 tomatoes. :S

  9. Very inviting sauce, crushed tomatoes is what I end up adding for most of my curries as it makes the task of removing the peels from the curry for my kids..makes the job so easy for us..

    I used to use pampered chef baking stone which I broke one day when I was trying to move it. It was hot. You can buy quarry tiles from home depot or lowes and use them too. Just don't move them unless they are at room temperature.
